CanWaCH Public Engagement Facilitator
STATUS: Part time: November 21 – November 24 2024, November 28 – December 1 2024, January 2 – January 5 2025, January 30 – February 2 2025. Approximate total number of hours: 96. Potential additional dates and hours to be negotiated.

PURPOSE: The CanWaCH Public Engagement Facilitator will play an important public-facing role in supporting a range of public engagement initiatives. The Public Engagement Facilitator will assist in the successful delivery and facilitation of workshops, coordination of partner activations, as well as logistical support for CanWaCH’s participation in events where there is an opportunity to highlight the interconnected relationship between health, nutrition, community leadership and participation in sport. With a focus on amplifying CanWaCH’s public engagement efforts, the facilitator will contribute to empowering young women and girls, fostering leadership, and deepening public understanding of global health issues. Over the next year, the facilitator will be integral in supporting CanWaCH’s diverse programming aimed at building global solidarity and community impact.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the facilitation of workshops held alongside events (such as girls’ sports tournaments like the WickFest Women’s Hockey Tournament, and other sporting and community events) highlighting global health, empowerment, and leadership for women and girls, fostering local-to-global connections in the programming. This will include on-the-ground workshop observation and training prior to delivering a workshop.
- Assist in the setup, execution, and teardown of event activities, ensuring smooth operations for various event components, including partner activations, workshops, and on-site logistics.
- As a member of CanWaCH
- As a member of CanWaCH’s event team, assist CanWaCH in working with event organizers and participating partners, supporting seamless collaboration and the successful delivery of global health-focused content alongside events.
- Help to foster a youth-driven approach to CanWaCH’s event engagements, aligning with CanWaCH’s objectives of fostering leadership and empowerment among young women and girls in sport and beyond.
- Contribute to the integration of international perspectives within events by assisting with programming that connects Canadian participants to global initiatives, particularly in the field of women’s and children’s health.
- Support CanWaCH’s public engagement strategy by assisting in the development and execution of innovative ways to deepen Canadians’ understanding of global health challenges, using sport as a platform to drive awareness.
- Support in scheduling, resources, and event materials to ensure the smooth delivery of all event-related activities, maintaining open lines of communication with event organizers and participants.
- Work closely with CanWaCH’s strategic engagement team, event volunteers, and partners to ensure alignment with the mission and objectives of empowering women and girls through sport.
- Assist in capturing event highlights, gathering feedback from participants, and preparing reports that reflect the impact of CanWaCH’s involvement in sport and community events such as WickFest.
- Explore and research sporting and community events as opportunities for CanWaCH to advance its public engagement objectives for youth.
- Work will primarily take place ‘on-site’ and the successful candidate must be available to travel to sport and community events across Canada (e.g. WickFest in 2024-2025 and other to be determined events) that are scheduled on weekends, requiring availability Thursday to Sunday.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Commitment to CanWaCH’s values, vision and mission

- Demonstrated ability to present in a workshop or seminar setting
- High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, discretion and tact
- Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining diverse and complex organizational and individual relationships
- Demonstrated ease in ability to build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues
- Demonstrated excellence in ability and willingness to work effectively as a team member
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in education, youth engagement, workshop facilitation, partnership development or relationship management.
- University degree or currently enrolled in relevant fields (social science, education, gender, community development, international development, health and wellness, sport management). Equivalent combination of education (e.g. diploma) and experience will be considered.
DESIRED SKILLS
- Fluency in a second language
- Facilitation and public speaking experience
WHAT WE OFFER
- Transportation to and from events, as well as, accommodation and meals during required participation not included as part of the event
- Compensation will be provided at a daily rate of $300 for on-site work during events. Number of hours worked per day may be up to 12 hours and $25.00/hour for hours outside of on-site work.
