SENIOR ADVISOR, GENDER AND DIVERSITY MAINSTREAMING – 2 YEAR FTC
London (N.B.: It may be possible for the post-holder to work from a different location if the candidate is based in a country/territory with an Amnesty International Secretariat office and we are in a position to hire an employee in that location – please see link below to see our worldwide office locations: https://www.amnesty.org/en/careers/regional-offices/)
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a unique opportunity to shape Amnesty International’s future work – ensuring gender and diversity is at the core of all of our human rights work and organisational practices. The Senior Advisor, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming will lead and facilitate effective gender and diversity mainstreaming initiatives across Amnesty International – from a capacity-building, programmatic, and organizational perspective – within its Secretariat, national entities, and leadership governance structures. This role reports to the Senior Director of Research, Advocacy and Policy and will provide leadership on gender and diversity mainstreaming under the strategic goal covering gender and non-discrimination in the current strategic plan. This is particularly relevant as Amnesty is due to adopt its new long-term global strategy in 2021. In particular, over the next 12 months, you will be expected to provide analysis, practical guidance and support on how gender and diversity aims can be achieved within the organisation – especially within Amnesty’s programming, planning, monitoring and evaluation approach, project management processes, and capacity-building programmes to implement the new strategy. The role will work in close collaboration with the Gender, Sexuality and Identity team, and a network of gender experts from across the organisation.
ABOUT YOU
You will have strong technical expertise in gender and diversity analysis and mainstreaming program work – preferably within INGOs or similar civil society/international organisations contexts. The nature of this role will require you to work very closely with a huge variety of stakeholders across countries, areas of expertise and different level of maturity with regards to gender and inclusion. This will require you relying on extensive relationship-building and people skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others – especially to influence and negotiate decision-making including at most senior levels. Finally, as a member of the Gender & Diversity community within Amnesty, you will also be expected to have significant expert knowledge in at least one policy area that addresses gendered anti-discrimination, intersectional analysis, and the ways that human rights abuses are underpinned by intersecting inequalities. A supportive and collaborative team player, you will be comfortable working collaboratively in an open and constructive way.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
As member of the Management Team – lead, conceptualize and elaborate a capacity building vision, strategy and project(s) for effective gender and diversity mainstreaming across Amnesty’s strategic and operational plans.
