POSITION

Success as Crossroads International’s Senior Manager, Philanthropy and Public Engagement includes infusing your passion for inclusion, diversity, and gender equality, in the following:

  • Leading a high-performance Fundraising, Communications and Public Engagement team to significantly increase a diverse fundraising portfolio. This portfolio fuels capacity strengthening for our partners to deliver on our collective vision of ending poverty and fulfilling the rights of women and girls,
  • Leveraging institutional funds to scale successful models of voluntary cooperation to accomplish the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals,
  • Developing and executing philanthropic strategies that raise funds for the biggest impact Crossroads has ever made in its key areas of intervention: girls’ empowerment; women’s economic and climate resilience, women’s leadership, and the end of gender-based violence,
  • Creating compelling and abundant opportunities for individuals, corporations, and foundations to contribute to Crossroads’ vision through: a) digital fundraising strategies, b) face-to-face solicitation, c) events, d) Crossroader fundraising, e) corporate partnerships, and f) planned giving, and
  • Igniting a movement of Gender Equality Champions of a size, scope and influence that has not yet been seen in Canada. More than ever before, Canadians are taking actions consistent with the values of being a Crossroader, #IAMACROSSROADER.

GENERAL CONTEXT

Together we want to advance the mission of Crossroads by building a community of philanthropic supporters who will empower our ONE WORLD vision where poverty is eliminated, equality prevails, and the rights of women and girls are fulfilled. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Philanthropy (50%)

  • Champion and support an organizational culture of philanthropy.
  • Execute an integrated philanthropic strategy that includes and is not limited to: a) digital tools, b) individual, major gift and foundation approaches, c) events, d) Crossroader fundraising, e) corporate partnerships, and f) planned giving.
  • Participate in solicitation calls as well as providing appropriate briefing for the Executive Director and senior volunteers. Liaise directly with corporate representatives, major gift donors and prospects, foundations, and community leaders to implement plans.
  • Recruit and retain top calibre volunteers to build philanthropic support to Crossroads.
  • Provide leadership to formation and management of high-profile donor affinity groups for the purpose of principal gift fundraising.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of customized recognition and stewardship programs that retain life-long involvement of donors.
  • Ensure timely, accurate and personalized acknowledgement of gifts, appropriate donor recognition, donor correspondence, visits, interim reports, and donor financial statements.

2. Public Engagement (30%)

  • Execute a multifaceted, targeted strategy to increase awareness, understanding and engagement of Canadians to contribute to overcoming poverty and advancing rights for women and girls in Africa.
  • In collaboration with the Philanthropy team, volunteer mobilization team, senior leadership and volunteers, develop and implement alumni relations strategies that ensure ongoing engagement of Crossroads alumni.
  • Research, monitor and assess trends, best practices, and innovative approaches for public engagement with a view to testing and adapting promising tactics.

3. Organizational and Human Resources Management (20%)

  • Ensure effective and inclusive engagement and development of talent including a team of 6 staff, as well as volunteers, consultants, and interns.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the department budget and work with the Management team on overall financial planning and management issues.
  • Integrate awareness and management of strategic, financial, reputational, and operational risk in philanthropic and public engagement practices.
  • Contribute to government funding proposals and reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience managing, soliciting, and securing seven figure major gifts and developing integrated in person and digital philanthropic strategies,
  • Has led successful, large scale fundraising campaigns for capacity strengthening programs in general and Voluntary Cooperation Models, in particular,
  • Minimum seven years (7) progressively responsible relevant management experience,
  • CFRE designation and/or a masters’degree or equivalent experience in a related field such as resource development or communications,
  • Understanding and experience with the functionalities of Raiser’s Edge/NXT or equivalent software, and
  • Knowledge of CRA regulations and guidelines, and the Donor Bill of Rights.

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES

  • Results driven. Strong analytical, financial management and budgeting skills. Capacity to present return on investment strategies for key decisions.
  • Authentic and compelling storyteller with attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to write clear, engaging, and creative copy for a variety of purposes and audiences.
  • Strong understanding of digital engagement. Tech savvy including knowledge of online tools and fundraising strategies.
  • In love with the voluntary cooperation model and sees it as a very effective tool for accomplishing the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • A ‘networker’ – passionate about expanding a network of stakeholders who care about advancing the rights of women and girls.
  • People management skills, including leadership, coaching, and performance management.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
