Workshop Development: Engaging Youth on Global Health Awareness
Request for Proposals (RFP)
Summary and Background
The Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH) is currently accepting proposals from qualified firms to design and train facilitators to deliver a one-hour interactive workshop to be utilized sporting and community events, in the immediate term, at four upcoming hockey tournaments across Canada between November 22, 2025 and February 2, 2024. Participants will be girls aged 11 to 18, coaches and families. The workshops should be highly engaging, educational, and designed to resonate with young female athletes, fostering a sense of global awareness, empowerment, and community engagement. CanWaCH staff and associates will deliver the workshop and own the rights to all material developed under this contract.
CanWaCH is a partnership of more than 100 Canadian non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, health professional associations and individuals partnering to improve health outcomes for women and children in more than 1,000 communities worldwide.
Overview
The workshops are based on the following premise that for societies to thrive, all individuals must have access to good health, nutrition, education, and the opportunity to ambitiously pursue their goals. The workshops will focus on the following key themes:
- Global Awareness: Introduce participants to the challenges faced by girls in low- and middle-income countries, particularly regarding access to education, sports, nutrition, clean water, and sanitation. Statistics show that girls in these regions are often disproportionately affected by barriers that hinder their ability to participate in sports and lead healthy lives. The workshops will prompt participants to make connections between their life experiences with those in underserved communities.
- Community Engagement: Encourage participants to think about their roles as community leaders and advocates for change, emphasizing the importance of supporting one another. Evidence suggests that girls who engage in sports develop critical leadership skills and a sense of belonging, which are vital for community involvement.
- Barriers to Success: Highlight the obstacles that can hinder girls’ participation in sports and education. Many young women face significant challenges, including inadequate access to education, safe sports facilities, nutritious food, and health education. By discussing these barriers, participants can learn about potential solutions and develop strategies to overcome them.
