Why language matters for inclusive health programming in emergencies and development contexts

In humanitarian and development settings, programs may fail to connect with marginalized communities because of language barriers, mistranslations or culturally insensitive terms.

Co-hosted by CanWaCH and IAWG, and led by IAWG member CLEAR Global, this powerful webinar explores the role of language in programme design. It considers the connections between language, vulnerability and exclusion, with a particular focus on affordable and impactful solutions for sexual and reproductive health programming.

Areas covered during the webinar include:

  1. The role of language in program design, especially in SRHR programming.
  2. Common struggles in understanding guidance faced by partner organizations.
  3. Why terms matter? Cultural nuances and taboos in discussing health topics.
  4. The digital health programming divide: What are the major challenges, and what steps can help solve them.
  5. Language inclusive program design – with a focus on affordable solutions.
