The Peter Gilgan Foundation is a private family foundation that supports charitable initiatives that build a healthier, prosperous, and sustainable future. The International Development Portfolio is the only funding area within the Foundation that targets intervention participants, specifically, women and children who reside in low- and middle-income countries. 

The International Development Portfolio has two funding priorities, and they include: 

• Maternal and Child Health – The Foundation is committed to reducing infant, child, and maternal death. In the past the foundation has funded projects that improve access and quality to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure and services and strengthen healthcare systems by supporting training of professionals. 
• Education and Empowerment of Girls and Women – The Foundation is committed to empowering women and girls. In the past, the foundation has funded projects that improve the capacity of smallholder women farmers and improve education access and outcomes for young girls.
