Description

March 2015 – The UN estimates that 7.4 million people in Afghanistan are currently in need of humanitarian assistance. Malnutrition and food insecurity levels are especially worrying with 1.2 million children acutely malnourished and 2.2 million Afghans are considered to be severely food insecure. Access to basic health services a major concern. As a result of the internal conflict and natural disasters, 140,000 Afghans were newly displaced in 2014. In addition, 225,000 additional Pakistani refugees entered Afghanistan’s eastern provinces. With DFATD’s support, Action Against Hunger is providing direct nutrition assistance, technical to the national health system to deliver nutrition assistance and water, sanitation and hygiene assistance to malnourished children under the age of five and pregnant and lactating mothers.
