Description

This Program aims to improve enrolment, attendance and retention rates, especially for girls, in 1,040 selected primary and secondary schools, and to improve the nutritional status of school-children and their families in 60 food-insecure districts in Afghanistan. It is providing take-home rations of fortified cooking oil to 552,690 girls and boys in grades 1 to 6 (47 percent girls). Given the particularly high drop-out rate for girls in grades 7 and 8, fortified cooking oil is also distributed to an additional 107,310 girls in these grades to encourage them and their parents to continue with their education. Cooking oil is a desirable component of the local diet in Afghanistan, has high nutritional value, and is easy to transport and store.
