Description

Malnutrition in Pakistan has remained an unresolved issue for decades. In addition, school dropouts from primary to secondary schools is > 60% among girls and > 70% amongst boys due to various factors including economic conditions. The Thar Desert in Pakistan is home to 1.5 million people across 2,300 villages living below the poverty line. Before the launch of our project in Thar, most families were not sending their children to schools. There are schools, which are available, but the attendance at Thar schools is consistently low because children are often needed to earn money alongside their family to have food on the family’s table at night. These same families now understand that the lack of education can be detrimental in the lives of children and most of them now want their children to attend school in order become someone who can change the future of Thar. Furthermore, our project in Thar is not just about the linking education with food but it is also improving children’s health and cognitive development. Children’s health has improved because they are eating regular meals and milk, dates, and their bodies are getting proper nutrients
