This program aims to reduce violence against women and girls, and the prevalence of child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) through coordinated prevention and response activities in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, and Philippines. Project activities include: 1) creating an enabling environment to prevent violence against women and girls by engaging key community leaders (including religious, private sector and political) and youth in advancing women’s leadership and women’s rights; 2) improving access to economic opportunities and to services such as shelters, and legal and psycho-social support; 3) reinforcing the use of innovative knowledge, including best and emerging practices, and accountability systems to end violence against women and girls, and CEFM. This project reaches 245,000 direct and 980,000 indirect beneficiaries (mainly women and girls).

Return to topThe expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened engagement of key community leaders (including religious, private sector and political) and youth in advancing women’s rights and the elimination of violence against women and girls, including CEFM; (2) greater access to support services and economic opportunities for women and girls affected by violence and CEFM; and (3) increased use of innovative knowledge, including best and emerging practices, and accountability systems to end violence against women and girls, including CEFM.
Results achieved as of March 2019 include: (1) 114 public declarations/actions were made by project influencers to decision-makers on the need for legislative changes to protect the rights of women and girls, in the areas of violence against women and girls (VAWG) and child, early and forced marriage (CEFM); (2) 462 training, advocacy, and lobbying activities on the implementation of laws and policies to address VAWG and CEFM were initiated; (3) 375 mass-media events to ensure that CEFM laws are followed in civil registries were organized; (4) 577 workshops were undertaken with women and girls to strengthen their capacity to advocate for their rights; and (5) 579 workshops, combined with training activities for men and boys, were supported to change attitudes, and to improve accountability mechanisms to address incidences of VAWG and CEFM in their communities. A total of 192,141 beneficiaries (of which 60.5% were women) have been reached by this project.
