The DANBÉ project aims to fill the gaps in sexual and reproductive health and rights for women and adolescent girls in the Sikasso and Ségou regions by strengthening the capacity of health facilities, through training and regular coaching of care providers and the provision of medical and non-medical equipment. This also involves improved and more integrated management of sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender-based violence services. Women and girls would have access to a full range of services, including emergency neonatal obstetric care, family planning, comprehensive sexuality education, prevention of sexually transmitted infections, and prevention and response to gender-based violence. The project involves capacity-building for the relevant technical departments of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and the Ministry for the Promotion of Women, Children and the Family, to improve the availability and quality of sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender-based violence services.

Return to topThe expected outcomes of this project include: 1) increased utilization by adolescent girls and women of appropriate health services, in sexual and reproductive health and rights, prevention and management of gender-based violence, and support for survivors; 2) increased effectiveness of institutional players in coordinating intersectoral interventions in favor of sexual and reproductive health and rights, reduction of gender-based violence and gender equality; 3) increased control by adolescent girls and women over resources guaranteeing them autonomy within their communities.
Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) increased the percentage of adolescent girls and women who have used appropriate health services, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, and the prevention and management of gender-based violence (GBV) in all 4 health districts supported. This includes 38% in the Baroueli health district, 37% in Tominian, 48% in Bougouni and 27% in Koutiala; (2) increased the delivery rate (28.3% to 41%) in the Barouéli, Tominian and Bougouni health districts; (3) set up coordination structures to promote gender equality and combat GBV in the Barouéli, Tominian and Bougouni health districts; (4) supported 240 women’s and teenagers’ associations with 6,287 members to improved their knowledge of gender equality and women’s and teenagers’ rights; and (5) supported 480 members of community and local organizations (357 men and 123 women) to implemented activities aimed at eliminating gender-based violence. This is done through talk-debates and awareness-raising sessions on local radio stations and public spaces.
