Description


This project will strengthen the food systems present in the communities of Tshikaji and Tshimbundu in the province of Kasïa Central and will equitably increase the impact of increased, more diversified, better quality and more stable agricultural production on the nutrition and health of the participating farmers and their families and the population in general, especially children under 10 years of age, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly and people with disabilities. To this end, the project will provide high-quality seeds, tools, training in climate-resilient agricultural practices and techniques, and constant technical accompaniment to participating farmers; information and training on nutrition and healthy eating habits to participating farmers and the general public; and medical care, medicines and emergency food supplies to people suffering from severe acute malnutrition, especially children under 10 years of age, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly and people with disabilities. The project will also develop some springs in the area to protect them from environmental contamination and improve the quality of water consumed by families in the communities, and provide information and training on equitable, sustainable and hygienic water use. Finally, it will provide culturally appropriate information on sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as on women’s right to participate in community and family decision-making and to live a life free of violence.

Expected Results


Immediate outcomes:

–      Improved knowledge of and skills in sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture among smallholder farmers

–      Increased access to sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural inputs (seeds and tools) for smallholder farmers

–      Increased knowledge of more nutritious household diets among the participating farmers’ families and among the general population

–      Improved access to safe and adequate medical care for people suffering from acute malnutrition, especially children under 10, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly and the disabled

–      Increased equitable access to nutritious food for food-insecure households and acutely malnourished people, especially children under 10, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly and people with disabilities

–      Increased knowledge of disease prevention, sanitation and hygiene methods among the participating farmers’ families and among the general population

–      Increased access to clean water sources for the population of the communities
