Description

This project aimed to increase villagers’ trust in local government and traditional authorities in the Dand district of Kandahar province by improving the delivery of basic services and enhancing economic opportunities. It worked with local officials in each village (Community Development Councils) to identify the village’s most pressing needs and develop initiatives to address them. The initiatives supported included: (i) surveying local irrigation structures and initiating rehabilitation work where required; (ii) providing training on health and hygiene, including safe water practices; (iii) providing vocational training in partnership with existing micro-finance providers, to generate new livelihood opportunities; and (iv) responding to sundry other village needs. The project built on the concrete results achieved and the proven approach taken by a pilot project in Deh-e-Bag village in Dand.
