Description

Post Partum Haemorrhage is severe bleeding following delivery. It is one of the leading causes of Maternal Mortality in both developed and developing countries. Tragically, there are more deaths from Post Partum Haemorrhage in Africa, where medical facilities and medication to control bleeding are often lacking.

Mamas 4 Mamas has partnered with Life for African Mothers to supply the life-saving medication, misoprostol to decrease death from severe bleeding and eclampsia. Life for African Mothers is based out of Wales, UK and takes care of the procurement, shipping, and delivery of the medication. Mamas 4 Mamas supports their efforts through the donation of funds.

How it Works:

Life for African Mothers has partnered with IHP (International Health Partners) who liaise with a donor company on their behalf to acquire Misoprostol tablets which are then sent to seven Sub-Saharan African countries, namely: Liberia, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Cameroon, Malawi, Chad and The Congo. In 2015 and 2016 they sent out over 400,000 tablets treating over 100,000 women. Three to five tablets are required to treat a woman depending on the severity of the haemorrhage. The tablets are given free of charge, thus the only expense is the shipping.
