Description
Through support to The Hospital for SickKids (SickKids), this initiative seeks to help the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust (NMCHT) put in place operations and management systems for the new 200-bed Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH) located in Johannesburg. Global Affairs Canada funding to this project supports SickKids Hospital to provide technical support to the NMCH in the following areas: 1) recruitment and training of key operational and clinical staff; 2) establishment of effective governance and management structures, fair procurement of capital and operational equipment; and 3) establishment of world-class clinical research and teaching platforms. Under this project, SickKids partners with the NMCH by offering its expertise across a broad spectrum of advisory services to build the hospital’s capacity and help it realise its vision of improved child-centred specialised paediatric healthcare services for children in South Africa and the southern Africa region irrespective of their social and economic status.
