The project aims to increase the influence of local women citizens and women leaders in the management of municipal affairs. The project aims to build the capacity of at least 300 women elected officials and local leaders involved in municipal politics. In addition, the project contributes to the development of municipal policies and services inclusive of women and girls that have an impact on them and on vulnerable groups, such as women and youth in marginalized areas. Project activities include: (1) implementing training programmes for elected men and women to recognize and support women’s leadership; (2) conducting a study with civil society in targeted municipalities for the development of gender-sensitive public services; and (3) sensitizing government authorities and the National Federation of Tunisian Cities [Fédération Nationale des Villes Tunisiennes (FNVT)] to the gender equality aspect in the management of local affairs. The project helps raise awareness to women’s leadership and participation among some 7,206 electoral advisors (of which 3,500 are women). The project targets eight municipalities, with a population of about 350,000 inhabitants, half of whom are women.
