Description

This grant provides support to the World Food Programme (WFP) to run Purchase for Progress (P4P) pilots in both Ghana and Afghanistan. P4P is an initiative that uses the WFP’s food procurement activities to create and enhance markets for food commodities grown locally by low-income or small-holder farmers. Building on WFP’s existing successful local procurement program, P4P provides farmers in the developing world with the opportunity to supply food for WFP aid operations. In addition to creating a market for the surplus crops of smallholder and low-income farmers, P4P provides opportunities for agricultural development by helping farmers learn how to produce higher-quality foods, and promotes the local processing of food.
