Description


The project aims to support the empowerment of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Ziguinchor and Sédhiou in Senegal. RECAF-Jeu will use sport and play as a form of experiential learning to develop critical life skills such as leadership, communication and self-esteem in adolescent girls and boys, in support of enhanced agency in girls and positive masculinity in boys.

The overall goal: Enhanced empowerment of vulnerable and marginalized adolescent girls and young women in theZiguinchor and Sédhiou regions of Senegal.

Outputs


1 Training: Members of girls’ clubs trained in life skills, with a focus on decision making, self-esteem and leadership
1 Training: Regular sports activities organized for adolescent girls and young women
1 Workshop: Sports and play-based activities delivered to members of girls’ clubs to promote their understanding of SRHR, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and MHM
1 Workshop: Caregiver support groups established and trained for caregivers to facilitate discussions on gender equality
1 Advocacy: Open engagement events/public dialogues between girls, boys, young women and government officials organized

Expected Results


-Increased agency amongst vulnerable and marginalized adolescent girls and young women in targeted communes of Ziguinchor and Sédhiou regions for the realization of their rights within their families and communities

-Increased action by family and community members, including men and boys, in targeted communes of Ziguinchor and Sédhiou regions to support gender equality and the realization of the rights of adolescent girls and young women

-Increased accountability of key institutions to respect, promote and fulfill the rights of adolescent girls and young women in and through sport
