The project aims to support the empowerment of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Ziguinchor and Sédhiou in Senegal. RECAF-Jeu will use sport and play as a form of experiential learning to develop critical life skills such as leadership, communication and self-esteem in adolescent girls and boys, in support of enhanced agency in girls and positive masculinity in boys.
The overall goal: Enhanced empowerment of vulnerable and marginalized adolescent girls and young women in the Ziguinchor and Sédhiou regions of Senegal.

As of March 2025, RECAF-Jeu has made strong progress in empowering adolescent girls and young women through sport and play in Ziguinchor and Sedhiou. (1) More than 3,443 girls and young women actively participated in sports through community clubs, surpassing the project goal of 1,899; (2) 51% of adolescent girls reported having better self-determination in making choices in sports, education, and marriage, compared to 35% at baseline; (3) Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health rights improved, with 35% of girls now aware of their health rights, compared to 17% at baseline; (4) 76% of adolescents reported feeling safe and included in sports spaces.
