The Nippes earthquake emergency humanitarian project was implemented following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti, which occurred August 14, 2021. The Nippes Department, where Doctors of the World (DOW) works with the most vulnerable populations, is one of the departments that was hardest hit by the earthquake. The nine health facilities there don’t have the capacity to provide the necessary care to the victims injured in the earthquake, which stands at 12,700 as of October 7, 2021, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
