CanWaCH September 2026 newsletter: Funding opportunities, Academy registration and an intuitive event checklist!

Estimated reading time: 6 minutes

See you in class! Practical learning you won’t want to miss

Registration is now open for the 2026 CanWaCH Academy! Hosted from October 5 to 7, sessions offer practical, accessible and action-oriented learning. Inspired by the theme Clarity, Capacity and Connection, this year’s edition covers a range of topics across the global health, international development and gender equality landscape. You’ll leave with clear takeaways, concrete examples, curated resources and tangible next steps you can easily apply.

Sessions will be virtually hosted between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. EDT each day. Please note that you must register for each academy session separately. We encourage live attendance to make the most of the learning experience! Some sessions will feature intel and resources that are exclusive to participants.

New resource: A curated funding opportunities board

We’re excited to present a new section on the CanWaCH website dedicated to sharing the latest funding opportunities in the sector! Developed in response to member needs and insights, it will feature calls and opportunities related to global health, international development, women’s health research, gender equality and humanitarian assistance.

Mark your calendars! AGM and membership renewal

The 2026 CanWaCH Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be hosted on Thursday, November 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST! Stay tuned for more information and registration details in our October newsletter.

The new CanWaCH membership year begins on October 1, 2026! Watch your inbox for a renewal invoice sent via Glue Up on the day. Per our policies, your annual CanWaCH membership renews automatically and your organization will be issued an invoice, payable in advance of our AGM.

If you have any questions or would like to update the contact information of the individual in your organization responsible for making the payment for this invoice, please advise us at [email protected] as soon as possible. We look forward to another successful membership year!

Your in-person event checklist

In-person events offer an absorbing environment to share learnings, bring people together and engage with new and current audiences. Successful ones begin with thoughtful planning and preparation. Our latest At a Glance provides a well-structured checklist to ensure no critical detail gets overlooked.

A warm welcome to the newest CanWaCH member

We’re delighted to welcome Help A Girl Out (HAGO) to the CanWaCH membership! A national award-winning charity, HAGO advances menstrual equity through access, empowerment and education in Canada and abroad. Through product distribution, educational workshops, reusable menstrual initiatives and community partnerships, HAGO works to reduce stigma, address period poverty and support individuals in managing their menstrual health with dignity and confidence.

Advance SRHR conversations with our social media toolkit

September features several moments connected to sexual health and reproductive rights (SRHR), including World Sexual Health Day, World Contraception Day, International Safe Abortion Day and Gender Equality Week. Prepared by CanWaCH and the Inter-Agency Working Group (IAWG) on Reproductive Health in Crises, this social media toolkit features messages and visual assets to help you join the SRHR conversation.

Translating women’s health research beyond the lab

The Pan-Canadian Women’s Health Coalition (PCWHC) is hosting its next KEystone Conversation on September 17 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. EDT. Through a panel discussion followed by lightly facilitated breakout conversations, participants will explore the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities involved in translating women’s health research beyond the lab and into practice.
