The CanWaCH Dialogue is coming to Toronto on May 6! Hosted in the heart of the city from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EDT, the evening provides an opportunity to casually connect with professionals and colleagues from across the CanWaCH membership and international cooperation sector. The Dialogue will also feature an engaging art showcase celebrating and recognizing sector efforts!
Shifting global priorities and funding uncertainties are creating a more complex environment to secure resources for global health and gender equality programming. Join colleagues from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EDT on May 14 for an open conversation discussing ethical dilemmas, experiences and advice. Participants will be invited to join small breakout groups, fostering meaningful and productive discussions in a safe and supportive environment.
CanWaCH is excited to offer a virtual Cascade Training program aiming to help you develop the facilitation skills needed to lead gender equality training within your organization. Participants will gain practical tools and strategies for engaging participants, handling resistance and creating inclusive, participatory learning environments. The training will also include access to 1-on-1 coaching.

The partnership between CanWaCH and WickFest marked a groundbreaking approach to engaging Canadians in conversations about global health and international development. WickFest’s unique tournament platform, including both a hockey tournament and workshop offerings, enabled us to connect with a diverse audience of youth athletes, their parents, coaches and other members of the Canadian public, while reinforcing our mission to advance the health and rights of girls around the world.
CanWaCH was pleased to join the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) and support the attendance of youth and delegates from organizations across our membership. Throughout the first week of the session, the CanWaCH delegation meaningfully participated in important discussions, engaged in learning through impactful events and shared insights with their networks.
CanWaCH will be conducting a member engagement survey (MES) over the month of April. Please watch your inbox for CanWaCH’s MES as your feedback will help strengthen our efforts to support the health and wellbeing of women, children and adolescents around the world. Surveys will be sent to member identified leads across the CanWaCH membership in areas of monitoring and evaluation, programming, communications, policy, public engagement and gender equality.
CanWaCH members Aga Khan Foundation Canada and Seva Canada have exhibitions on show this April! Open to the public until April 20, an Ottawa exhibition of the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme showcases the transformation of Al-Azhar Park in Cairo and its impact on the lives and livelihoods of artisans in the surrounding neighbourhood.
From April 7 to May 2, Seva Canada’s “Love at First Sight” exhibition in Vancouver features photos by Tanzanian and Nepali eye care patients after their sight was restored with cataract surgery or glasses. Each photographer was handed a camera and asked to capture what they missed seeing most. The moving images celebrate universal human values and the simple pleasures of family, friends and the beauty in our daily lives.
CanWaCH will be hosting our third Global Health Impact Summit on the theme ‘Data That Speaks: Harnessing qualitative insights for global health and gender equality’. In the lead-up to this event and project spotlights throughout the year, help us by checking out your organization’s data in our Project Explorer. Two questions to keep in mind as you do so: Where might I add more descriptive data about our activities and results? What shareable tools and resources can I include?

Publication spotlight! Researchers at the Institute for Global Health are pleased to present their new publication “Community perspectives on maternal diets in Kenya, Mozambique and The Gambia.” A descriptive approach was used to explore community perceptions, finding that dietary diversity was consistently considered by community members as important for a healthy maternal diet.
