August 2025 CanWaCH newsletter: Academy registration, tools to curate your feeds and a new campaign featuring a global YouTube star

Estimated reading time: 8 minutes

Welcome to the 2025 CanWaCH Academy

Brush off your favourite notebooks this back-to-school season — the CanWaCH Academy returns from September 22 to 25! Shaped by the theme Adapting to Change: Strengthening Capacity in a Shifting World, this year’s sessions are designed to help members adapt and respond to a rapidly changing world. From navigating advocacy in a shifting geopolitical landscape to building strategies for impactful storytelling, the Academy will offer timely, skills-based learning to support resilience and strengthen capacity.

As humanitarian needs increase and more members work in fragile and crisis-affected settings, the Academy will also explore how we can collaborate more effectively to support women, children and adolescents in the most challenging contexts.

At a Glance: Tools to curate social media feeds and a guide to LinkedIn Groups

We’re excited to share two new editions of our At a Glance series. First, you’ll learn how to curate your organization’s social media feeds to best fit your interests and priorities. Second, we break down key differences between public and private LinkedIn groups — and how to use each to your advantage.

In review: Montréal Dialogue and an in-person workshop between CSOs and researchers

July 7 saw us host an in-person Montréal workshop bringing together CSOs and researchers seeking to co-create the future of sexual and reproductive health and maternal, newborn and child health. Over a rich day of shared learning, participants discussed shared goals, strengthened mutual understanding and built networks for future collaboration. The day concluded with our Dialogues series, bringing together colleagues and members for a vibrant evening of connection and conversation alongside an engaging art exhibition presented by Unité de santé internationale (USI).

Sector moment: International Youth Day

August 12 marked International Youth Day! This year’s theme, Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond, highlighted the unique role of youth in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities. To mark the moment, members of our youth working group and voices in global health are sharing blogs on interrogating power dynamics, the role of technology and finding motivation from global peers. Read them on our  Write to Thrive blog throughout August.

Initiative spotlight: SOS Children’s Villages Canada recently announced the launch of their Green Growth – Empowering Youth for a Green Future project in partnership with the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada. The initiative aims to increase the economic participation and resilience of over 18,000 disadvantaged youth in Ethiopia, Rwanda and Somalia by equipping them with the skills and support needed to thrive in the growing green economy. Check out the SOS Children’s Villages Canada website to learn more!

Data matters: Take part in CanWaCH’s Summer Data Drive!

Our Summer data drive to update the CanWaCH Project Explorer is currently underway! We invite all members and partners to share new projects as well as update data that is either missing or incomplete for ongoing or closed projects. For this drive, we particularly invite you to focus on updating your population data. This includes both numbers (such as expected or confirmed reach) and descriptors (age, sex, gender and other descriptors). We kindly ask you to please share your data by August 29, 2025. Need more time? Not a problem — just let us know by emailing [email protected].

Is it your first time entering projects? Need a refresher? Check out our Project Explorer user guide and user portal video tutorial.
