CanWaCH congratulates the Liberal Party of Canada on its election victory

The Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH) congratulates the Rt. Hon. Mark Carney on his election as Member of Parliament for Nepean and as Prime Minister of Canada.

Prime Minister Carney’s leadership comes at a pivotal time for Canada and the world. CanWaCH looks forward to working with the new government to advance the health and rights of women, children and adolescents worldwide, building on our longstanding collaboration with the Liberal Party to drive progress in global health and gender equality.

The Liberal Party’s commitment to protecting Canada’s tradition of standing with the world’s most vulnerable is urgent and necessary. We welcome the government’s pledge to safeguard funding for sexual and reproductive health care and to ensure that Canada’s foreign assistance advances gender equality — essential steps to uphold rights and save lives.

CanWaCH also welcomes the focus on areas of women’s health that have been historically overlooked, including postpartum maternal health, menopause, endometriosis and maternal mortality. With women’s health research facing cuts elsewhere, Canada’s investments will fill a critical gap and deliver tangible impact.

As Canada assumes the G7 presidency, CanWaCH urges the government to keep health, gender equality and human rights at the centre of its agenda. With global challenges mounting, Canada must lead with clarity and conviction.

We look forward to working with Prime Minister Carney and his team to ensure these priorities are championed at the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta — and to strengthening Canada’s role on the global stage.

Together, we have an opportunity to shape a healthier, more just world.
