March 2, 2017 – The Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH) welcomes today’s announcement by the Government of Canada and International Development Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau allocating $20 million and her strong commitment to future funding towards Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) at the She Decides conference in Brussels.
CanWaCH Executive Director Dr. Helen Scott stated, “We are pleased with the Government of Canada’s commitment to realize the health and rights of women and girls. New funding is critical to deliver on Canada’s global commitments to empower the most vulnerable in some of the world’s toughest places to realize their health-related rights with dignity, including their sexual and reproductive rights. To maximize impact, funds to SRHR must be additional and integrated into existing women’s, children’s and adolescent efforts.”
Dr. Scott added, “We look forward to greater clarity on the strong commitments to women and girls empowerment and health mentioned by the Minister today. Our members, who work in over 1000 regions globally, are seeing the results of Canadian leadership firsthand, as more women, children and adolescents are healthy and empowered to live to their fullest potential.”
