Data for Impact Bulletin: Summer 2025 Edition

New resource available! Data interrupted: Navigating the changing global health data landscape

The Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program has been a cornerstone of the global health data ecosystem for nearly four decades. With the abrupt termination of its funding earlier this year, there is an urgent need for the global community to assess and address the implications of this gap and chart a sustainable way forward for generating and making available critical health data.

Following virtual consultations engaging hundreds of Canadian and global partners, CanWaCH is pleased to share the following resource which provides background context, useful insights, relevant links and calls to action for the sector.

As this is a constantly evolving issue, please contact [email protected] if you have any recommendations or updates to suggest to this document.

Take part in CanWaCH’s summer data drive!

Our Summer data drive to update our Project Explorer is currently underway! We invite all members and partners to share new projects as well as update data that is either missing or incomplete for ongoing or closed projects. For this drive, we particularly invite you to focus on updating your population data. This includes both numbers (such as expected or confirmed reach) and descriptors (age, sex, gender and other descriptors). We kindly ask you to please share your data by August 29, 2025. Need more time? Not a problem — just let us know by emailing [email protected].

Is it your first time entering projects? Need a refresher? Check out our Project Explorer user guide and user portal video tutorial!

Integrating environmental considerations into global health programming

It’s been one year since CanWaCH’s landmark Healthy World Conference explored the intersection of climate, gender and global health, and we heard calls for better integration and coordination across these sectors. Explore the powerful insights from this gathering in our Reflection on Conversations at the Healthy World Conference summary

One of the clear calls for CanWaCH was to support the development of robust technical guidance for global health partners seeking to better integrate environment considerations in their work. We are therefore delighted to share the newest edition in our technical guidance series: Technical Guidance Note: The Integration of Climate, Gender Equality and Health into Programming in Development and Humanitarian Contexts.

Welcome to the 2025 CanWaCH Academy

Brush off your favourite notebooks this back-to-school season — the CanWaCH Academy returns from September 22 to 25! Shaped by the theme Adapting to Change: Strengthening Capacity in a Shifting World, this year’s sessions are designed to help members adapt and respond to a rapidly changing world. From navigating advocacy in a shifting geopolitical landscape to building strategies for impactful storytelling, the Academy will offer timely, skills-based learning to support resilience and strengthen capacity.

As humanitarian needs increase and more members work in fragile and crisis-affected settings, the Academy will also explore how we can collaborate more effectively to support women, children and adolescents in the most challenging contexts.
