Dear CanWaCH members and colleagues,
What another great year for global health and gender equality in Canada! On November 27, 2019, CanWaCH held its Annual General Meeting. It was a great day of reflection on the successes of the past year and anticipation for our collective work in the months and years to come. CanWaCH also welcomed three new members to the Board of Directors: Onome Ako, Amref Health Africa in Canada, Dr. Timothy Grant Evans, McGill University, and Danny Glenwright, Action Against Hunger Canada. Finally, CanWaCH bid a warm farewell and our deepest thanks to retiring Board Members Dr. Dorothy Shaw, Caroline Riseboro and Jennifer Blake for their service on the CanWaCH Board of Directors.
CanWaCH was also grateful to see friends, old and new, come together to share information and knowledge on gender equality and data and metrics as part of the Summit on Canada’s Global Leadership. Alongside the Summit, CanWaCH and CCIC hosted the Festival of Leadership to showcase inspiring films that demonstrate the impact of Canada’s investment and leadership in international development. Missed the event? Host a viewing party on the Lead On Canada Facebook page to immerse yourself in the work of CanWaCH members as they strive to advance global health and gender equality around the world.
As we wrap up the year, the CanWaCH team has also compiled a list of our favourite moments from 2019! Did your favourite moment make it into our list? Let us know what you would include in your “best of 2019” list on Twitter by using @CanWaCH and #LeadOnCanada.
On behalf of everyone at CanWaCH, we wish you and yours a very happy holiday season. See you in 2020!

Our sincerest thanks to the Honourable Maryam Monsef for her previous leadership in the role and we look forward to continuing to work with her to strengthen gender equality in Canada and around the world!
CanWaCH also applauds the federal government’s commitment to international development and gender equality, along with its overall reaffirmation of Canada’s commitment to improving the health, rights, and wellbeing of women and children around the world, in the speech from the throne on December 5, 2019.

Earlier this week, the global community marked the end of this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (GBV) with Human Rights Day. CanWaCH and our global partner Frontline AIDS are reflecting on the negative impacts of GBV through storytelling. Watch four stories shared by a diverse group of women at the Canada Pavilion alongside Women Deliver 2019.
