Global Citizen Unplugged: Celebrating International Day of the Girl 2018

The energy and excitement were palpable on Oct 11th, 2018 when a group of almost 300 feminists, global citizens and Women Deliver Mobilizers joined together to celebrate the work being done across Canada and the world to move the dial on gender equality and create a future where she is equal.

CanWaCH, Global Citizen and Women Deliver 2019 Mobilization Canada co-hosted the evening in honour of the International Day of the Girl. The lineup included gender equality and women and girls’ health experts speaking in between exciting live performances, blending music, poetry, interviews and video shorts to produce a provocative and engaging event.

The sold-out event served as the launch of Global Citizen’s ‘She Is Equal’ campaign in Canada and highlighted Canada’s leadership in global health, through the ‘Lead On Canada’ campaign. Both campaigns are in line with Women Deliver 2019 Mobilization Canada, a movement that is galvanizing action for gender equality across Canada in the lead up to Women Deliver 2019.

Musician and Montreal-native, Nikki Yanofsky, closed out the night with a captivating set of her original songs and covers that captured the activist energy of the room perfectly. Her set included an homage to fellow Montrealer, Leonard Cohen, as well as her new single, “Big Mouth,” which was inspired by, and in support of the Women’s March.
