On the heels of International HPV Awareness Day and International Women’s Day, CanWaCH and Results Canada hosted a timely roundtable discussion with Canadian policymakers, representatives from global health initiatives, academics and civil society organizations on the importance of a multi-sectoral approach to eliminate cervical cancer in Canada and around the world. Grounded in lived experience, evidence and implementation realities, the roundtable provided an opportunity to identify actionable steps, share best practices and strengthen cross-sector collaboration. Stay tuned for reflections from the discussion in our next newsletter!

On our second day at the seventieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), we were pleased to welcome members and partners in attendance to an evening reception and photo exhibition. Co-hosted with Ipas, Ensuring Girls’ Futures illustrated how inequitable legal systems and harmful social norms restrict girls’ rights – and how communities, advocates, youth leaders and the girls themselves are creating pathways to justice, dignity and opportunity. The evening also featured reflections from global and regional leaders, including the Honourable Commissioner Janet Ramatoulie Sallah-Njie, Special Rapporteur on the Right of Women in Africa, Africa Commission on Human and People’s Rights, Fabiola Mizero, Regional Director, Ipas Francophone Africa and Marrisa Kokkorus, Founder and Executive Director, Aura Freedom International. Thank you to all who joined us!
Did you know? Women and girls have just 64 per cent of the legal rights of men. This year’s theme placed a focus on Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.
Effective leadership in the global health, development and gender equality space looks different today than it did yesterday. The current landscape is challenging leaders at every level to rethink old ways of working and rise to meet the moment.
In a new brief: Global Health and Gender Equality Trends in the Leadership Landscape, Rachel Logel Carmichael breaks down the current challenges, and the opportunities that lie beyond.
We’re excited to welcome Women on Web, Mino Care and MSI Reproductive Choices Canada to the CanWaCH membership!
Rooted in feminist solidarity, Women on Web provides safe, confidential and affordable online abortion care in almost 200 countries. Offering support in 16 languages, their international team of activists, researchers and health workers increases access to high quality abortion care for women and pregnant people on their own terms.
Mino Care is a holistic virtual perinatal health care centre. They offer access to a range of customized, culturally safe health care services in support of Black women and birthing persons navigating reproductive and perinatal health.
Part of the global MSI partnership, MSI Reproductive Choices Canada builds on long-standing efforts to fight for a future where everyone can access contraception and abortion. Now, as a Canadian civil society organization, they add their voice to Canada’s rich sexual and reproductive health and rights movement.
In our latest At a Glance resource, we give an overview of all the ways you can connect with us! Whether you’re looking to follow from afar or collaborate directly, we’ve got you covered.

When humanitarian crises strike, disruptions to health services can mean life or death. Women, girls and other historically marginalized people often face heightened risks and additional barriers to care — including unintended pregnancy, obstetric complications, gender-based violence and HIV infection. Yet less than three decades ago, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services were almost entirely absent from emergency response.
We sat down with Sarah Knaster, Coordinator of the Inter-Agency Working Group (IAWG) on Reproductive Health in Crises, to discuss the network’s response to this gap and its evolution to fit the needs of the sector and its members.
That’s the question we posed to the 10 research Hubs comprising the Pan-Canadian Women’s Health Coalition (PCWHC).
Across women’s and girls’ health, from heart health and sexual health to HIV care and perinatal health, the Coalition brings together researchers, care providers and people with lived experience to generate and mobilize evidence that supports more inclusive health systems.
