Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence: Tools and Best Practices to “Do No Harm”

27 September 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

While digital spaces have become a game-changer in advancing gender equality, they also mirror the systemic divides that exist in the physical world. This has created new ways for women, girls, and gender-diverse people to be isolated, exploited, abused, harassed, silenced, and excluded. In particular, technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV)* – – has become a growing threat and carries significant health, safety, political and economic consequences for women and girls, for their families and communities, and for society as a whole.

On September 27 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT, join CanWaCH to discuss strategies, tools and best practices to address and prevent TFGBV through multiple approaches and at different levels. This session will provide a multi-sectoral approach, sharing diverse perspectives on how different organizations balance working towards closing the gender digital divide and prioritizing women’s agency in online spaces while ensuring their protection.

*Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) refers to any act that is committed, assisted, aggravated, or amplified by the use of information communication technologies or other digital tools likely to cause physical, sexual, psychological, social, political, or economic harm or other infringement of rights.
