Description

The objective of this project is to support four higher education institutions: Mohammed V University in Rabat and Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech in Morocco and St. Joseph University and Balamand University in Beirut, Lebanon. This project aims not only to strengthen the role of universities in workforce training, but also to foster the growth of businesses by providing support to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those managed by women. The project also seeks to facilitate the diversification of training programs through the increased use of digital technologies. Project activities include: 1) strengthening the organizational management of the target universities; 2) implementing enhanced employment skills programs that better meet the needs of the labour market and entrepreneurship; 3) strengthening collaboration between these universities and private sector companies. This initiative is managed by the Université de Montréal – Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) – International Health Unit.

Results & Indicators

Expected Results

The expected results of the project include: 1) 80% of the administrators and employees at the four universities who receive various management-related training, including the implementation of new policies, procedures and regulations; 2) 1,600 students in Morocco and 400 students in Lebanon who benefit from developed or revised employment skills programs; 3) 800 students in Morocco and 400 students in Lebanon who benefit from ongoing training activities provided by universities in partnership with the private sector; and 4) 120 young entrepreneurs from these two countries who benefit from support for the development of their businesses.

Achieved Results

Creation of the first university program in occupational therapy in Lebanon, a family medicine program in Morocco and the strengthening of the nursing program in Lebanon. In addition, two cohorts of environmental auditors were formed, as well as teams of multipliers in university pedagogy and consultants in business development and young entrepreneur coaching. The project also yielded equity policies and inclusion policies focused on students and staff with disabilities as a priority (architectural accessibility, accommodations during exams, adapted teaching tools) as well as the creation of sustainable structures to support students throughout their journey.
