We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. Dorothy Shaw on receiving the Order of Canada on November 18 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. Dr. Shaw is a women’s health advocate who received the Order for her contributions as a doctor and administrator who has helped advance women’s health care in Canada, and maternal, newborn and child health internationally. Vice-president of the BC Women’s Hospital and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of British Columbia, she is known as a collaborator, mentor and leader in reproductive health and rights. As a founding Partner of the Canadian Network for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Dr. Shaw continues to sit on the Board of Directors and shape the evolution of our organization.

The Order of Canada was created in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Since its creation, more than 6 000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.
