POSITION: POLICY AND GOVERNMENT RELATIONS OFFICER

STATUS: 1.0 FTE

REPORTING TO: DIRECTOR, STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS AND GENDER EQUALITY

LOCATION: VIRTUAL, BASED IN CANADA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Utilizing excellent interpersonal communication skills, time management, and writing skills, the Policy and Government Relations Officer effectively coordinates the implementation of a variety of projects to galvanize continued engagement of stakeholders. This work is primarily done through the following areas of activity: 

  • Deliver policy and government relations activities 
    • Support internal reporting including data collection, activity monitoring and tracking and analysis, ensuring that outputs and deliverables are met;
    • Support the coordination and delivery of in-person and online CanWaCH activities including meeting logistics, coordination of schedules, sourcing meeting locations and supporting travel plans;
    • Support the successful coordination of meetings including outreach to stakeholders, preparation of agendas, meeting minutes and briefing notes;
  • Coordinating sector working groups 
    • Lead on coordinating sector working group meetings, including work planning, scheduling, setting up Zoom calls, developing agendas in consultation with the Director, Strategic Partnerships and Gender Equality, circulating meeting materials in advance, recording meeting minutes, advancing working group deliverables etc.; 
    • Support on advancing CanWaCH priorities, including monitoring deliverables, timelines, action items, and preparing communications for sector partners; 
    • Contribute to key sector initiatives and outputs, such as supporting event project cycles, written materials, webinars, knowledge exchange activities, key government relations moments, etc. 
  • Strategic support 
    • Conduct research and prepare briefings, as requested, on a broad scope of global health and gender equality topics;
    • Provide strategic assistance to the Director, Strategic Partnerships and Gender Equality  in developing effective and efficient processes;
    • Support coordination of special projects, as assigned. 

Required Skills:

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience. We welcome applications from new and recent graduates.
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline such as, but not limited to, public administration, political science, international development, global studies, or other relevant fields;
  • Demonstrated passion for global health and gender equality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to handle and organize varied workloads
  • Proven ability to communicate with a high degree of effectiveness both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated aptitudes in discretion, tact and negotiation
  • Demonstrated sense of humour
  • Excellent computer software knowledge (Google Drive, online office and project management software, ZOOM, Microsoft Office) and demonstrated aptitude at learning new software
  • Highly self-motivated, with an ability to work independently in a virtual office setting
  • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of coordination project lifecycle for meetings and events 

Desired Skills:

  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Demonstrated experience of successfully working in a coalition or membership-based environment or in an environment which required engagement of diverse stakeholders.
