Charting the next chapter for Canada’s global nutrition leadership

Action Against Hunger Canada and the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH) are excited to announce an upcoming report that will reimagine Canada’s role in global nutrition.

To inform this critical resource, the two organizations co-hosted a two-day retreat in Ottawa, convening leaders and experts from across the public, private, philanthropic, academic and civil society sectors, alongside in-country partners who traveled from around the world to contribute their expertise and perspectives.

Book your spot at our ICFP 2025 networking reception!

CanWaCH and the Inter-Agency Working Group (IAWG) on Reproductive Health in Crises will be hosting a special networking reception during the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP)! Taking place immediately after the opening ceremonies, join us on November 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. local time.

The evening will provide an opportunity to share early insights from conference sessions, discuss emerging trends, and strengthen collaboration across networks to advance SRHR in humanitarian and development contexts.

Thank you for joining the 2025 CanWaCH Academy

Class was back in session from September 22 to 25, bringing together over one thousand registrants! Thank you to all who joined us and shared their insights across rich days of learning and conversation. Keep an eye out for recordings and resources in your inbox next week!

At a Glance: Writing and pitching op-eds

Op-eds are short opinion essays that let you share your expertise, shape public conversations and position your organization as a trusted voice — all without paying for media space. In this extended At a Glance, we break down when op-eds are the right choice, how to craft a compelling argument and tips for pitching your piece to Canadian publications.

Sector moment: International Day of the Girl

Marked on October 11, the International Day of the Girl calls the world to amplify girls’ voices, celebrate their potential and push for change on the barriers that stand in their way.

Members of the CanWaCH team celebrated the day from WickFest Milton, where we used our FuelHER initiative to connect young athletes with global perspectives on sport, health and leadership. Activities included a nutrition-themed scavenger hunt, ‘dotmocracy’ wall and screenings of international development initiatives. View highlights from the weekend on Instagram!

Did you know? Plan International Canada rallied thousands of supporters and the Canadian government to make International Day of the Girl a reality. Check out their website to learn more about this year’s focus and meet girls leading change around the world.

Sector moments to connect and grow

Fora’s 2025 Leadership Forum takes place at the Toronto Reference Library tomorrow, October 17! With a focus on career development, community and mentorship, the event brings together young leaders, mentors and sector shapers to lead intersectional change.

On November 5 and 7, join Partners In Health Canada in Montréal or Toronto for The Global Health Activism We Need. The inspiring evening features South African activist Zackie Achmat, recipient of McGill University’s inaugural Paul Farmer Award for Global Health Equity, Dr. Wesler Lambert, Executive Director of Partners In Health / Zanmi Lasante in Haiti and Dr. Adrienne Chan.

News from the Pan-Canadian Women’s Health Coalition: SHAPE Hub Grand Rounds

The Sexual Health and Genito-Pelvic Pain Knowledge Empowerment (SHAPE) Hub is a pan-Canadian initiative working to break the silence around sexual health and genito-pelvic pain. Their mission is to close gaps in care by promoting evidence-based knowledge, inclusivity and culturally sensitive approaches.

Join their Grand Rounds on October 29 at 12 p.m. EDT to learn, connect, and engage in conversation around a topic that is often overlooked in health care.
