Despite making up the majority of the agricultural workforce, women farmers in rural Ghana earn less income, own less land and face greater barriers to growing their businesses. Led by Canadian Feed the Children, and implemented in partnership with a strong network of local organizations, the SHINE (Sustainable Development, Human Rights, Inclusion and Equality) project is supporting them in efforts to boost their yields, earn a higher income and make their families more food secure.
Our new video in partnership with Canadian Feed the Children brings you stories of the people at the heart of the project, sharing its impact on their livelihoods, family and community.

The compounding impacts of increasingly violent conflicts over the past decade and the prevalence of extreme weather events have left women and children especially vulnerable and have put global progress at risk. As Canada assumes the G7 presidency next year and hosts world leaders in Kananaskis, Alberta, we must address these increasingly dire challenges. We must also reaffirm our commitment to advancing the health, nutrition and rights of the world’s most marginalized women and children.

CanWaCH CEO Julia Anderson and Director of Global Health Impact, Jessica Ferne, recently visited an interactive gallery exhibit at the Calgary Central Library helping to shape the vision of women’s health in Alberta! Organized by the Sex, Gender, and Women’s Health Research Hub, in collaboration with the Calgary-based design consultancy J5, the exhibit collected stories of women’s experiences of health, the health care system and being a woman.
The team of researchers is still collecting stories at this link until August 16! All the information shared will help their team understand how women currently experience the health care system and inform their strategic planning for women’s health. Stories can be “big” or “small”, positive or negative, and can be shared anonymously.
