The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79) takes place from September 10 to 30. This year’s theme is “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.”
Is your organization going to be at UNGA 79? Please let us know by sending an email to Julianna Stonehouse, CanWaCH Manager, Strategic Partnerships. We will have a team in attendance and would love to connect with you.

On World Sexual Health Day, CanWaCH hosted an engaging panel discussion on Connecting the dots: Data for advancing SRHR! Featuring global perspectives, the discussion unpacked why and how data is essential for measuring, tracking and driving progress in our efforts to achieve sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for everyone. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Our World Sexual Health Day social media toolkit features posts on sexual health and rights, highlights organizations working to protect and advance access to care and shares resources from CanWaCH and our members. Check it out here ahead of World Contraception Day on September 26 and International Safe Abortion Day on September 28.
September 22 to 28 marks Canada’s Gender Equality Week! Celebrated annually, the week is an opportunity to celebrate the progress Canada has made in advancing gender equality while reflecting on the work that remains. This year’s theme “Unlocking Potential: Economic Power Through Gender Equality” serves as a reminder that gender equality is essential for a thriving and equitable society.
We’re marking the week with curated conversations on September 18 and 25! Each conversation will start with a short discussion between experts in the sector. They will set the context by identifying gaps and challenges in data collection on a specific thematic area, and opportunities to better leverage data to inform programming. Participants will then move to breakout rooms for deeper discussions or take part in an open Q&A session.

We’re delighted to introduce “Behind the Screens”, a newsletter series celebrating the team that makes CanWaCH tick! In this edition, meet Imaeyen Okon:
Imaeyen is responsible for developing, coordinating and maintaining CanWaCH’s data and mapping initiatives and networks, as well as capacity building activities to support monitoring and evaluation processes for improved evidence-based programming and decision making.
Imaeyen appreciates a great sense of humour and has a deep love for stand up comedy. She also loves to put on a pretend performance when dancing. She is not great at either one. (Editor’s note: Imaeyen’s words, not mine. I get the vibe that she’s a great dancer.)
CanWaCH is thrilled to be partnering with Cooperation Canada for the International Cooperation Futures forum! Held from October 8 to 10 at the National Arts Centre (NAC) in Ottawa, the forum will convene and connect changemakers from Canada and around the world. Participants will collaboratively explore ways to address global challenges and create positive change through innovative sessions, interactive workshops and vibrant networking opportunities.
The CanWaCH Board of Directors supports good governance, accountability and the strategic direction of the organization. We are looking for enthusiastic leaders who can bring their passion and expertise to support CanWaCH’s initiatives and objectives. If interested in submitting a nomination form, please email Julianna Stonehouse. Completed nomination forms must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. EDT, Monday, September 30, 2024. Learn more here.
