In review: International Development Week 2025

Last week marked the 35th edition of International Development Week! There was an exciting variety of activities and announcements, with several featuring our members and partners.

On February 5, CanWaCH members Alinea International, Cowater International, Cross Border Impact Ventures and Lucky Iron Life participated in a forward-looking discussion on how innovative collaborations with the private sector can play a crucial role in achieving the SDGs. Speakers highlighted unique ways the private sector can support NGOs and presented practical, innovative examples demonstrating how mutually beneficial partnerships can thrive.

CanWaCH and World Vision Canada, on behalf of the Gender Transformative Framework for Nutrition (GTFN) Coalition, hosted a discussion on Canada’s leadership in gender and nutrition, the operationalization of the Gender Transformative Framework for Nutrition, and driving forward Canada’s legacy and commitment at Nutrition for Growth (N4G). The session also addressed gaps and ongoing needs to support implementation and accountability for gender-responsive and transformative nutrition commitments at Paris N4G.

As the Global Financing Facility for Women, Children and Adolescents (GFF) celebrates a decade of transformative work in 2025, CanWaCH CEO Julia Anderson joined an impactful discussion in Ottawa with the GFF Secretariat. Speakers reflected on results, progress and prospects in expanding access to affordable, lifesaving health and nutrition care for hundreds of millions of women, children and adolescents in the GFF’s partner countries.

New funding and projects announced to strengthen health systems, eliminate malnutrition and support climate action

As part of International Development Week, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, announced 14 new projects to make health systems stronger and more resilient to stressors, such as pandemics, conflicts and climate change. The contribution of $248.2 million will also support the delivery of quality health services for the most vulnerable.

The Minister’s announcement followed an important investment for Nutrition International to support efforts to provide life-changing nutrition resources to people in need, with a particular focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Earlier in the week, new development assistance funding was announced to help ensure a sustainable future for all by empowering and equipping marginalized people whose livelihoods, supply chains and communities are greatly impacted by climate change.

Congratulations to all members receiving funding!
