On November 15, CanWaCH held its Annual General Meeting. Reflecting on a year of constantly evolving global challenges, we drew inspiration from the continued resilience of our members and their steadfast commitment to addressing the ongoing inequities in the world. We also reflected on the moments we came together in new and old ways and the excitement of reconnecting in-person, with eager anticipation for more in 2023.
Thank you for your ongoing support over the past year. Our team looks forward to all that we can do together in 2023. We would like to wish you and yours a very happy holiday season!
Over the course of the year, we hosted 42 events and webinars, introduced the second iteration of the Canadian Collaborative for Global Health, renewed our focus on youth engagement, became the new home of ThriveHire, launched new tools and resources, and undertook significant internal improvements to our systems and processes to better enable us to support our members.
Our 2021-2022 annual report looks at the year’s defining moments, the membership that inspires our work, and our members’ efforts to ensure that the priorities of women, children and adolescents remain at the heart of what we do.
Building off of the success of our cross-country gatherings in 2022, CanWaCH will be coming to a city near you as a part of our CanWaCH Dialogues Days in spring 2023!

The Equal Futures Network, an initiative of the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH), will host Equal Futures 2023: A Gender Equality Summit in Whitehorse from May 17-18, 2023. This second annual event builds off of the success of our first-ever gender equality summit in June 2022 where over 200 champions for gender equality from communities across Canada gathered in Ottawa.
More information, including programming and registration details, will be communicated through the Equal Futures: A Gender Equality Summit mailing list and the Equal Futures Network’s social media channels. Equal Futures 2023: A Gender Equality Summit is supported by Women and Gender Equality Canada.
CanWaCH was thrilled to join members and partners in Pattaya City, Thailand for the International Conference on Family Planning in November. Sessions held during the conference considered sexual well-being, health and pleasure, challenges to family planning efforts, feminist philanthropy and sexual and reproductive health and rights among LGBTI+. Read some of the takeaways in our Twitter thread shared during the conference. Watch highlights from the conference here.
During the conclusion of our time in Thailand, we were pleased to have the opportunity to connect with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. During the conversation, our CEO Julia Anderson and the Prime Minister discussed the importance of supporting the health and rights of women and girls to realize their potential and their right to thrive in full health.

The Canadian Association for Global Health (CAGH) hosted the 28th Canadian Conference on Global Health from November 21-23 in Toronto. CanWaCH was delighted to take part and engage with fellow members in attendance. Elizabeth Dyke, PhD, wrote about her conference experience, including reflections on the conference’s focus on equity and inclusion, in the ThriveHire Files. Read the blog here.
The month also saw the Global Health Students and Young Professionals Summit (GHSYPS) hosted in Toronto, inviting emerging global health leaders to explore and address the inequities that exist on the local and global scale. Keep up with GHSYPS on Instagram and LinkedIn for conference reflections.
CanWaCH is thrilled to launch our new data analytics portal focusing on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. The portal summarizes and visualizes project data, illustrating support provided to advance the health and rights of women, adolescents and girls around the world. The portal is currently available in English. A French version is in production and will be available in the coming year.
