What We Heard: Gender Equality Week 2021

To mark Gender Equality Week 2021, the Equal Futures Network hosted a variety of programming and events throughout the month of September. Activities included programming from diverse partners and participants with expertise in: advocacy, education, policy development, research, programming and more. Featuring young leaders, key stakeholders, our membership, and sector partners, the events offered an opportunity to convene individuals, groups, and organizations advancing gender equality and social justice in communities across Canada.

Member Spotlight: World Sight Day

Today is World Sight Day, the annual day of awareness for vision impairment and blindness around the world. It’s a day to celebrate the accomplishments made in eye health globally while acknowledging the inequalities that continue to persist and reflecting on what we can all do to close the divide.

This year’s global theme is #LoveYourEyes. Did you know that nearly everyone on the planet will experience an eye health issue in their lifetime and more than a billion people worldwide do not have access to eye care services? Love Your Eyes is about being aware of, and maintaining your own eye health encouraging others to do the same.

Watch this video from Seva Canada to learn the four simple “P’s” you can take to improve your eye health.

Operation Eyesight seeks to prevent blindness and restore sight. To do this, they collaborate with local ministries and health authorities in the countries where they work to address the growing need for accessible eye health care. For eye health care to be accessible, it needs to be affordable and available at the local level. Find them on social media to follow along with World Sight Day activities, including eye screenings, vision centre inaugurations, ophthalmic training and more across Canada, India, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia. Read more about their work on our website.
