The results are in! New public opinion polling

This past June, CanWaCH and several of our member organizations partnered with Abacus Data to find out what Canadians think about international assistance. The survey aimed to explore how Canadians perceive their country’s role in supporting those beyond our borders and the factors influencing those perspectives. Read the full results here.

Celebrating the ways youth lead

August 12 marked International Youth Day! At CanWaCH, we recognize the essential role youth play in bettering the world, and we strive to uplift their achievements. Check out this blog celebrating youth working group members working to advance gender equality in their communities.

CanWaCH’s submission for pre-budget consultations in advance of the 2024 federal budget

The health of women and children, in all their diversity, cannot be an afterthought to global investment. It’s not a nice to have – it’s a must have. A woman’s health lays the foundation for her children’s health, her family, her community and for generations to come. Today, that means investing in global health architecture grounded in a feminist approach. An approach that reflects the needs of women and children and places their untapped potential and sustainable futures at the helm of health priorities. Read our submission for pre-budget consultations here.

In review: Women Deliver 2023!

One of the largest multi-sectoral convenings to advance gender equality, Women Deliver 2023 was hosted in Kigali, Rwanda from July 17 to 20. Our time in Rwanda and at the conference saw us host a ministerial roundtable, engage in a side event co-hosted by two CanWaCH members, visit projects, hear and learn from gender equality advocates and host a networking reception that connected members and sector partners in attendance. View photos and read our reflections from the week here

Members of the CanWaCH Gender Equality Working Group hosted sessions and exhibitions and took part in the conference and side events. They shared their takeaways and perspectives on Canadian CSOs engagement in these global spaces with us.

Catalyzing Collective Action Through Gender Transformative Nutrition was an event jointly hosted by the Gender Transformative Framework for Nutrition Coalition (GTFN), a Collaborative initiative, and the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement. The session sought to explore and highlight the potential of the GTFN to tackle gender inequalities and improve nutrition outcomes by analyzing gender power dynamics and engaging in nutrition programs at national, subnational and community levels.

Upcoming moments: World Water Week and Gender Equality Week

August 20 to 24 marks World Water Week! Access to safe drinking water and water services is a fundamental human right, and when women and girls are unable to exercise those rights all aspects of their life – health, education, food security and economic opportunities – are profoundly affected. This year’s focus is on innovation to tackle unprecedented water-related challenges. One Drop will be hosting engaging sessions led by the experts from the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector. Check them out here.

September 17 to 23 marks Canada’s annual Gender Equality Week! Join CanWaCH as we mark this important week with a three-part webinar series. Taking place every Wednesday in September, the series will focus on some of the most pertinent and challenging issues being faced and will create opportunities to address them in order to make sure that everyone – regardless of their gender – can reach their full potential.

Please note that you will have to register for each session individually. Each session will have simultaneous interpretation available.

Are you planning something for Gender Equality Week 2023? Let us know! CanWaCH is interested in hearing what you have planned to mark this year’s Gender Equality Week so that we can use our platform to amplify your event! Project spotlight: ‘Empowering women through business and lifelong vocational skills training’

On August 1, the Foundation for Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue Initiatives (FIIDI) launched a women’s training centre in the Makomp community of Marampa chiefdom in Sierra Leone. The project incorporates financial literacy and numeracy skills and will focus on training 50 disadvantaged women in acquiring gara tie and dye (African coloring design clothing) and tailoring skills to become self-reliant, run individual businesses and create jobs for themselves and other women.
